Serving for - 2
Ingredients
Toor Dal (split yellow pigeon peas) / Tuvar Dal - 1/2 cup (Wash the dal and soak in a water for 15-20 minutes)
Small Tomato - 1 (Cut into cubes)
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Red chili powder - 3/4 tsp
Goda Masala - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 2tbsp
Cloves of garlic - 3-4 (minced)
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

Pinch of asafoetida
Fresh / frozen shredded coconut - 2 tbsp
Grated jaggery - 1/2 tbsp
Lime juice - 1/2 tbsp

Procedure
- Add soaked toor dal, tomato cubes, turmeric powder, 2 cups of water and salt to taste in a pressure cooker. Cook the dal till 4 whistles. Once the pressure goes away, open the lid. Add red chili powder, goda masala, shredded coconut, and grated jaggery. Mix well and mash the dal little bit.
- Heat oil in a sauce pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, pinch of asafoetida and curry leaves. Let them splutter. Add minced garlic and saute for few seconds. Add cooked dal and mix well. Adjust the consistency of curry as per your requirement by adding water. Let it boil. It will take around 6-8 minutes. Finally add lime juice and chopped cilantro. Serve hot with plain rice.
